Jhunjhunu, is the social capital of the locale known as Shekhawati and has a rich history, as it assumed a noteworthy part in the governmental issues of Shekhawati. On the off chance that nearby legends are to be depended upon, the historical backdrop of this spot goes back to the Pandavas (of the epic, Mahabharata) who, while meandering, had invested some energy here. In 1450 A.D. Muhammed Khan and his nephew Fateh Khan looked for future in the grounds ruled by the Jorh Rajputs. Muhammed Khan vanquished Jhunjhunu and Fateh Khan established Fatehpur in 1451 A.D. Shaws Khan, child of Muhammed Khan was the principal Nawab of Jhunjhunu. After the fall of the Sayyad Siblings, Nawab Fazil Khan and Rohilla Khan laid their cases for Jhunjhunu and their ranges were restored to them. Rao Shekhaji was the organizer of the Shekhawati branch of the Kachhawahs. Shekhawati or the 'patio nursery of Shekha' is named after him. His relatives managed their little kingdom as vassals of the maharajas of Jaipur, till India's Freedom in 1947. The region town of Jhunjhunu has some magnificently painted havelies.
